Sacramento Area Council of Governments is an association of local governments in the six-county Sacramento Region. Based in Sacramento, Calif., it coordinates transportation planning, funding and project delivery for Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, Sutter and Yuba counties and the cities within them. Sacramento Area Council of Governments caters to state responsibilities as the regional transportation planning agency (RTPA) and federal responsibilities as the metropolitan planning organization (MPO). The council offers services on a range of transportation topics, including transportation demand management, federal and state transportation funding, service authority for freeways and expressways (SAFE), metropolitan transportation plan (MTP) and metropolitan transportation improvement program (MTIP).
