Hurds Hound Haven is kennel that provides great care year around, better than at home some times with the top of the line suites and air conditioning. The kennel has been very clean and the staff is always friendly every time I am there. We love the Haven

We have been going to the Hurds for close to 15 years now and can not say enough about this kennel and family. I have watched how they care for their dogs and the dogs in their business through these years and I have seen nothing but great care. Living in this community I heard about Tucker's death and was amazed to realize that it occurred at the Hurds Kennel knowing how high their standards are. Even though this was a tragic event it will not change my choice to continue to go there, From what I see and have heard they have attempted to make it right. It is unfortunate that Tuckers family chooses to continues to be this upset and do not move on, but it will not affect how we (my family and our dogs) feel, that they and their care is great.

The Hurds love and care for the animals like their own personal animals. Beautiful facility and top notch care!!

Hurd’s Hound Haven continues to be deeply saddened by the loss of Tucker. As we review the situation, we evaluate our response. Was it immediate? Yes, by our staff and promptly by the owners upon their return to the country. Was it complete? Yes, we offered a resolution that concurred the owner’s wishes and our responsibility: a new puppy and complete payment of any costs incurred. Was it amiable? Yes, we shed tears together and ended with handshakes and hugs. So as a result, we were surprised by their response here on social media, and after much deliberation, we decided to respond. Hurd’s Hound Haven has been in business for over 20 years caring for your pets as though they were our own. Following this accident, we reviewed all of our policies and procedures internally and with the State inspector to ensure that this doesn't happen again. We continue to operate with our motto unchanged, we are a “Royal Treatment” facility, and our family is committed to personal and excellent service for your family pets!

We boarded our 18 month old English bulldog, Tucker at Hurd’s Hound Haven in Roland, IA while we went on vacation. On our first day of vacation (July 8th, a hot, humid, 90+ degree day in Iowa), we received a phone call that Tucker had been left outside in the heat too long and was taken to a nearby vet in Roland to be treated. After speaking with the vet in Roland and wanting Tucker to have the BEST care available to him, we had him transferred to our personal vet. Tragically, the damage to Tucker’s organs had already been done. He passed away later that night of a heat stroke due to the carelessness of the Hurd’s Hound Haven Staff. We found out that the owners were out of town and couldn’t be reached by their employees during Tucker’s stay.We didn’t receive a call from the owners of the kennel until almost a week later. When we met with them, they told us- “Even if we would have been here, we can’t tell you that this wouldn’t have happened.” We were stunned at those words because one of the owners is a vet himself and the kennel is supposed to be “directed” by him according to their website. After our experience with Hurd’s Hound Haven, we urge you not to risk the lives of your pets by taking them there. It was so hard for us to lose Tucker in this careless manner.
