DO NOT book tours with Nexus Holidays to China unless you are okay with the following to occur:
1) Payment in full is due almost immediately after booking tour
2) Final itinerary is not the same as that listed on Web site
3) Hotels are advertised as 5* hotels but are 3* at best
4) Potential flights with extremely long layovers
5) Additional fees added at any time prior to trip
6) Receiving final travel documentation 3 days prior to trip
7) If you book optional tour extensions, final documentation does not cover details
8) Tons of shopping stops (2 for jade, 2 for silk, pearls, tea, Chinese medicine, etc.)
9) Optional excursions that are in-route. Either you take them and pay or try to find things to do while others do tour
We made the mistake of booking a 10 day China tour with a Yangtze River cruise extension (for November 2018) in May 2017. We had paid in full for everything (minus optional excursions) on our original invoice over a year prior to the trip. The first major issue occurred when we decided to add our optional excursions prior to deadline presented in e-mail sent from Nexus Holidays (about 45 days prior to trip).
When adding our selected optional excursions, we were told we needed to pay an additional $150 per person fee for the booking of the intra China flights between basic 10 day tour and river cruise extension. I argued this was NOT as advertised on their Web site with both the agent and manager of the Washington DC office. Reluctantly we paid (9 of us), as they had control of all our money and the international airfare had already been booked. Cancelling was not an option.
Three days prior to flying our final travel documentation arrives. In this document, it clearly states that the $599 price for the Yangtze River extension includes the intra China flights. In addition, we spent time talking with all the other people that were doing the same extension and NONE of them were charged this additional fee.
