I brought the vintage 1930s chiffon dress that I plan to wear to get married in because a few inches of the front seam were loose. This is obviously a one-of-a-kind dress and I told them how important this dress is to me. They seemed to understand.

When I went to pick up the dress, I was horrified. The exposed seam of the original seam they were to fix was sticking out and there was a new seam which completely broke the lines of the dress. This was on the very front of the bias-cut dress.

I pointed to the seam and the woman immediately whisked it away to the backroom where the seamstress worked. The explanation for this truly shockingly sewing error? "She had a hard time seeing it" -- presumably, because the fabric is sheer. In what world is that a reasonable excuse? What kind of care or pride does that show in one's work? I was appalled.

In what felt like less than a minute later, they returned the dress, now "fixed." The speed with which this fix (of their error) did not suggest the care to me I would expect from an antique chiffon dress that someone is planning to get married in.

If you know anything about the 1930s bias cut style dress, the line of the cut and how it lays against the body is everything. I'm not sure the fix of their initial error has resulted in a dress that hangs the same. I tried it on briefly in the store but was too upset to be sure. I haven't had the heart to try it on and look at it again today.

This place may be fine for minor repairs of things you don't care much about, but please, please do not take something that deeply matters for them to tailor.

Best Service in town

I am new in town and just tried found the most wonderful tailor shop at 5535 Western Blvd. I was so happy with the quality of work and quick service. I took in several new shirts and pants along with some older clothes I wanted altered. Then next day I went back and tried everything on, Wow, every item fit just the way I wanted it to. Now I have a regular tailor in Raleigh.
