The Howard S. McDonald Building was constructed in 1955 to consolidate the student health services that had previously been in numerous locations on campus. When the McDonald Building was built it also housed the Air Force ROTC unit that was located at BYU. In 1999, the Student Health Center moved into a new building and the McDonald Building underwent a major remodel. The McDonald building was originally dedicated in 1957 by Joseph Fielding Smith and was rededicated by M. Russell Ballard in 2001. Starting in 2013 the McDonald building has been the location of BYU's research MRI facility.
