Let me begin with saying that the owner that came to our (me & my husband's) house is a hustler and a potentially violent one at that and needs to seek anger management help. We almost had to call the police on him. We had initially called the company and stated that we had 1-5 high-end oriental & Persian rugs that we believed required cleaning and depending on price and work required, we'd decide to do one or all of them. We wanted for them to come see the rugs to determine which needed cleaning and which really did not, because one carpet was particularly large and we could not bring it in our cars, because our cars are on the smaller end, not a pickup truck or minivan. Well once he walked in our home, which is a large house, with his apprentice or nephew, the price suddenly became $5 per square foot. Furthermore, he pointed out that significant repairs were needed and quoted one carpet at $240 but said, "let's make it an even $300 with tax. Sorry, New York State does not charge that much for tax and we look forward to reporting this company to the Department of Taxation & Finance for collecting additional funds in the name of collecting sales tax only to pocket the extra money themselves. He went on rounding off prices high until the prices were well beyond what we thought was reasonable, yet we were willing to pay it for good service. However, after being rounded up on prices so high, we decided to only get three carpets cleaned/ repaired at his grossly inflated prices, and to do the other carpets later on down the line. At that point, when my husband asked how he comes up with the rounded figures when New York State charges 8.875% in sales tax. That's when things got ugly: suddenly the man told my husband that the fees are for him having to come to our house, which must have totaled at least $300 at this point. That's when my husband offered to give him $20 for his time and elected not to do business with this man because he seemed like he fluctuates prices unethically and then adds more on top of that. Moreover, he told my husband that he has to come pick it up, to which my husband said fine, and then this man started berating my husband saying that we told him there would be five carpets, which is where he altered the truth. He told my husband to lose his number and cursed him out, YES, cursed him out in our home. My husband told him to leave and the guy refused and got in my husband's face until my husband took his sweatshirt off and told this man again to get off of our property. This man's poor apprentice appeared so nervous, although his overall reaction gave rise to the notion that this owner usually gets into altercations like this with others. I love supporting local businesses, but skip over this one. In addition, if you have children around, do not invite this man into your home. The man finally seemed scared of my husband after he realized that he would not back down. Skip Isbirian Oriental for more ethical and even-minded businesses.
