Family, friendly atmosphere, not even close

Went to Mt Scott Fuel on Foster today to purchase some compressed wood for my wood stove. Having read their website, I knew ahead of time that they prided themselves on their family owned business. They also were proud of beautifying Oregon. I can only assume that the older lady at the counter today is somehow connected to the business. There is no way anyone working for my company would ever give my patrons the cold and callus treatment my wife and I were given today, and expect to have a job the next. As we left today, my wife turned to me and said, "They'll never get any awards for customer service." That's the nice way of putting it. Rude and dismissive, as though our presence were distasteful to her. Very odd and uncomfortable for my wife and I. Needless to say, I will never insult her again by crossing her doorstep. My money and time will be spent elsewhere, where they at least have the decorum to feign common courtesy.

Price Gouging for Delivery

In an attempt to be environmentally conscious, a neighbor and I decided to have mulch delivered together via Mt Scott's divided trucks. I ordered one type of mulch and the neighbor another type and we live on the same block 4 houses from each other. We expected Mt Scott to charge one delivery fee...but were surprised that they wanted to charge 2 delivery fees. The neighbor ordered 3 yards of hemlock for $160 (would have been $102 if not delivered)...a whopping $58 delivery charge. I ordered 1 yard of fir for $90 (would have been $32 if not delivered)...yet another $58 delivery charge. Charging a $116 delivery fee is absolutely ridiculous and we consider price-gouging so the order was cancelled. Although we have had delivery from Mt Scott for the past 3 years, we will not place future orders at all.

No matter what you need....

Be it bark dust, compost/bark/poop mixture, gravel, you name it... Not only can Mt. Scott provide it - they are "nice", they are prompt, they are great. I've been using Mt. Scott since I bought my first house in the early '70s and they have never failed to provide excellent friendly service at a reasonable & competitive price! They also can help a "dummy" figure would what they need to order so that what arrives, it covers the area you have! They also don't make you feel like a "dummy" when you ask stupid questions. I just never got that part of math when figuring "area"!
