I visited this shelter on a Saturday morning with my wife and three kids after being very disappointed at North shore animal league. NSAL WAS VERY RUDE to us and others there that were there to adopt. I left immediately and saw a sign for North Hempstead Animal Shelter on the way home and stopped in. I'm very glad I did. All the staff was extremely nice and helpful with our dog search as well as they really knew what they were talking about and had a on site vet. You can also tell off the bat that they really cared for these animals. However some of these animals have been there for like 3 years and really need a home, though they seemed very loving and happy with the staff. Unfortunately we did not adopt a dog there that day but I would be willing to definitely travel back there even after it took me 2.5 hours to get there in traffic. They even gave us info on other shelters not affiliated to them and directions to them for shelters that will put animals to sleep if not adopted and provided directions to them. They were very concerned about the other dogs in the shelters that would be put to sleep if not adopted and would rather have one of them saved then to take your hard earned money and to clear the cages unlike North Shore that seemed more like a money making business. AND THE BEST PART WAS THAT THERE ADOPTION FEE WAS LESS THEN $30.00. Please check it out like my family and the others that stopped in after getting annoyed at North Shore.
