Management is Horrible

Much problems with the management. Many negative incidents.

First was the garbage incident. Trash kept overflowing out the dumpster for weeks, it was never emptied. I called, they said, oh, the lady in charge of paying the bill forgot before she went on vacation, and so the garbage sat for a few weeks after that. I reported it to the health department. The garbage incident then happened again a few months later. Their excuse: we did not like that garbage company and are trying to get a new one. Meanwhile, we got rotten garbage overflowing out of dumpsters not that far from my front door. What kinds of animals are they trying to attract here?

Then I was in my ninth month of pregancy, due to give birth in two weeks, just took maternity leave, and the air condition breaks, this is the week it was in the 90s, first week of June. I call, they say they will put it on the list. Ok, well that is normal. I end up dehydrating, even though I stayed in front of a fan and pumped myself with water, I had to go to the hospital. I call and tell them this, they had no compassion, they say well unless it is a listed life threatening illness where you have to have air condition, then you will just have to wait like everyone else. I understood maybe someone had more a serious issue like overflowing sewage or something, but they could have put me more of a priority over someone who might just need a door handled fixed on a door or something, but no compassion. So my husband called, he was not nasty to them, but he did say he was going to get a lawyer. After that, the manager started being mean to us. They took a long time to get my air fixed, meanwhile, to avoid being hospitalized, I had to go stay in a hotel.

Then, about two weeks later, we locked ourselves out. They told us they would send someone right over to help us out. After they realized who we were, they were like, well, we are going to have to charge you fifty dollars or something like that and we wont be able to get there until tonight. They had just told us they would be right over. They never mentioned that until we told them who we were.

Also, before I moved in, they told me that if we ever needed to get out of the lease, we could find a new tenant and they would let us break our lease. Our lease even says this. Well, now we need to move. So I called. I explained the situation, afterwards, she said she would call me back. She never called back, and the next day, she put a note in my box, well, the office is like far away, so a call would have been more ideal. Anyway, it says no I cant sublet. They never even said anything about having to sublet to get out of the lease. So I decide enough, I am going to call above her head. I talk to the main guy in charge, and he makes excuses for her, saying maybe she did not know the policy, after I said I think she is discriminating against us. Yeah right, she knows the policy. And yes, I can sublet he says, but then again, i was told i just need to find a new tenant, not be a subletter, which who wants to take that risk. Anyway, this company is huge in Pittsburgh, and big companies are so legalized that you be better to do business with a smaller company or an individual. Run from this company. They only care about taking your money.

Find another rental company

I won’t get into the gory details of every horrible experience I had during my time renting from Lobos, because I could go on for pages – I just wanted to say that before I rented from them, I did look them up on the web and saw all of the terrible reviews - but I rented from them anyway. I figured that I was getting a great deal and that would far outweigh any minor inconveniences that I may experience with them. I also "took the reviews with a grain of salt", assuming that the only people who post to these forums are disgruntled tenants - and that there must be just as many satisfied customers as dissatisfied. Please, do not make the same mistake I did, please trust that everyone is telling the truth with no exaggeration. The people who run and work for this company have no conscious and no sympathy for their tenants that are living in deplorable conditions. Beyond being neglectful and disrespectful, they are deceitful as well. They will lie to you to get you to occupy a property, fine you for concocted reasons and don’t anticipate ever getting your full deposit back - if you get it at all. Another assumption I had was that the poor reviews came from students who probably weren’t as responsible as they should be. While I’m certain that Lobos does make a bundle off of poor, unsuspecting students – their underhanded dealings extend beyond the student population. I am a professional 30-something who chooses to rent because my spouse is in the military and we don’t want to buy until he is out… We maintained our apartment beautifully and paid our rent and utilities faithfully – we suffered the same horrible experiences as everyone else. Please listen to the reviews – save yourselves the headaches, there are plenty of rental companies in Pittsburgh that are far better.
