Arkansas Area Health Education Centers, also known as AHEC, is a group of more than five teaching centers. Founded in 1973, the group offers a range of primary educational services. It provides various continuing education courses and special conferences for health care professionals. Its learning resource centers supply library resources to several institutions and individuals throughout Arkansas. The group, with a location in Pine Bluff, Ark., also assists nursing students with academic counseling, registration and computer services. Additionally, it offers accredited programs in several health-related professions. Arkansas Area Health Education Centers is a part of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, which serves more than 2,000 students and operates over five academic units.
