Raymond Hammond established HAMMOND SOAP & CHEMICAL COMPANY in 1939. He viewed Phoenix as the HUB of the southwest and not just another dusty watering hole between El Paso and Los Angeles. A purist with a constant eye on new technology and theory, he developed specialty chemical maintenance products for the schools, hotels and the institutions of Arizona and the southwest. His emphasis was on service and producing a quality product at a fair price. His concern was the safety of the products for the public and environment. Often implementing waste materials from other industries he recycled them in soaps, waxes and specialty cleaners. SUN RAY CHEMICAL COMPANY was started in 1966 by Raymond E. Hammond, Raymond's son. The plant was completely gutted and modernized. He became a pioneer in pressure emulsification. The "me-too" product was improved to meet the special needs of the southwest's extremely variable climate. Safer and more energy efficient systems were added along with high speed filling equipment and bulk storage. However, the original philosophy of service, safety and recycle remains. We proudly carry on the tradition.....
