The Arizona Department of Economic Security was established in 1972 through the combining of the Employment Security Commission, the State Department of Public Welfare, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, the State Office of Economic Opportunity, the Apprenticeship Council and the State Office of Manpower Planning. The department is designed to promote the economic self-sufficiency, safety and welfare of the residents of the state of Arizona. It provides services relating to adoption and foster care, aging, disabilities and rehabilitation, childcare, child protection, child support enforcement, family assistance, medical care and unemployment. The Arizona Department of Economic Security is headquartered in Phoenix.
