Sickening

We shop at the PV store once a week and generally on Friday evening. This must be the same shopping day for Indian (dot not feather) families since we see so many at this time. We have one complaint: Why did the bulk foods section become the public feeding trough for the Indian family children? Again this evening we saw a family feeding their kids out of the bulk foods (dried apricots).

I spoke to several employees about this and how I see it as an everyday occurance. They fully acknowledge it to be a common occurance and they say management refuses to make changes to a more sanitary method of dispensing thses foods. I have seen everything at the bulk food area; picking through the food, placing it in their mouths and spitting it back into the bins, sifting through the beans with their dirty little hands, etc.

Somehow the Indian culture does not see this as a negative and argues when confronted.

We like Sprouts but am afrid we are going to have to find another favorite store.

The only alternative in the neighborhood

Since Wild Oats (on Camelback and 40th St.) was taken over by Whole Foods, and subsequently closed, despite promising everyone that it would remain open, Sprouts on Indian School and 28th St. is the only alternative grocery store available in the neighborhood.

They have an EXTENSIVE vitamin/mineral/supplement section in their store. Almost 1/5 of the store are these products.

They have great produce (although never iceberg lettuce it seems), and a wide WIDE variety of health foods (both canned, boxed, frozen, and bagged).

I personally like their deli area that carries a lot of hard to find items such as soft liverwurst (an acquired taste of those east of the Mississippi).

Their fresh meat section is solid and their bakery area, although small, seems jammed packed so you can find something that fills the craving for your sweet tooth.

Pricing is in line with other health food stores so be prepared to pay for quality. You don't want to go to this store and buy the eco-friendly toilet paper or paper plates. Go to Walmart for tp. It all gets flushed down the drain so spend the money wisely when visiting this store.
