We personally could not leave our pets in a boarding facility that was not occupied by a pet care staff member 24 hours a day. Having a pet caregiver on site, all day and all night, contributes to added peace of mind and is a must at Second Home Pet Resort.

There is an Italian saying that sums up Second Home Pet Resort - "The fish smells from the head down." I almost didn't write this review, but after going through the numerous other one star reviews on this page, I felt it was my duty. Not only as a pet rescuer and activist, but as a human being to share about Second Home Pet Resort and the owner in hope's it could help you decide if this pet resort resonates with you and your animal(s) needs. I am sure the owner will try to rectify her actions, but I have nothing to gain here by speaking the truth.

I met Cheryl Nauman, the owner, some time back when I needed help with a rescue.. The particular's are not important at this point, but after all was said and done on both rescues that I called her in on, she didn't leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. I couldn't put two and two together how someone of her nature could own such a lovely resort. The Pet Resort itself is beautiful and is run like a tight ship, but you know the saying 'if it seems too good to be true it is'... well, that's how I would sum up the owner mixed in with a suddle sprinkle of Stepford Wife.

After that, I decided unless necessary, I would be gracious from afar as we are involved in the rescue community, but her passive aggressive school teacher type holier than thou tactics was way too much for me to stomach and be around and how she treated me during the last rescue i was involved with was unsettling at best. If she handles herself like that in a rescue situation, just how is she handling your animals from afar? My experience with her professionally has been humiliating at best and frankly after reading other reviews, it does not surprise me how others have felt taking their animals to her establishment - remember 'fish smells from the head down.'

I am writing this review because I think it's important that anyone taking their dogs to this place, they know the kind of woman who runs it. She ran the Arizona Humane Society for five years. I am not sure why she's not there now, but I can only imagine that it was her non-compassionate, have to be in control, Gestapo methods that was her demise. That is NOT someone I would leave a gerbil with, let alone any of my 7 dogs or 3 cats. Would you?
