Calvary Recovery Center Review

I attended the intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) at Calvary and it left much to be desired. It is a 2 month program that meets for 3 hours 3 days a week. The worst part about it was being treated like I was guilty of being high or drunk if I was quiet or was just having a bad day. I voluntarily admitted myself into the program because I wanted to get sober. The Therapist was constantly suspicious that people were drinking or drugging and I got tired of her always thinking the worst, especially because I was staying sober. Granted some people in the program are court ordered so the Therapist does need to remain vigilant in order to ensure that people are maintaining their sobriety. I however got really sick and tired of the suspicion if I didn't want to spill my guts or if I was 5 minutes late for group. If this isnt bad enough no one would outright confront you if they thought you were using, they would gossip behind your back and you would just sense it. This was extremely frustrating for me because I was sober. I wasn't very talkative or openly friendly which is why I think people were suspicious I was using. I ended up leaving treatment and opted for individual counseling. I'm still sober although i'm sure the therapist and everyone in the group think I'm out drugging. On a positive note, I did learn a lot about addiction, the keys to staying sober and a lot about myself. If you choose to go this route, be prepared for everyone to believe the worst of you if you don't want to conform to what the group standards are i.e. spilling your guts, participating in family days, etc... The program does work but you have to be prepared to really look at yourself, tell your business, and do it in a group setting. It wasnt for me.
