Anna van Niekerk is board certified in family medicine. She has expertise in primary care and preventive medicine for high need individuals. Dr. Van Niekerk has experience with all age ranges including prenatal care and competencies in procedural medicine. She assists with gender affirming care and uses the whole patient approach to treatment of substance use disorder.Dr. Van Niekerk earned her medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California where she dedicated additional time to learn hands-on therapy through osteopathic manipulation. She completed a family medicine residency at University of California San Diego (UCSD) where she focused on procedural skills and took additional courses in integrative medicine. Throughout training she provided care for people without stable housingand for those with recent refugee status.This training led to her work helping to open up a new primary care clinic for UCSD where she practiced family medicine including pediatrics, geriatrics, prenatal care and osteopathic manipulation and took additional courses in obesity medicine. Dr. Van Niekerk later relocated to Pennsylvania where she again helped to set up a new clinic, this time a merger between University of Pennsylvania Family Medicine and PHMC.Dr. Van Niekerk has particular interests in quality improvement in primary care with the ultimate goal of best addressing the needs of a community.
