Unique Cooking Style, All Homemade

We were attracted here because of a Groupon deal. Very neat and tidy, clean, quiet ambiance. We ordered étouffée, and a sampler of red beans, sausage, and rice and jambalaya. The étouffée was tasty with good quality sausage, light. A corn/ sausage dish was provided in lieu of cornbread, and that was good. The red beans were blended with tomatoes, onions, peppers and celery that was just a tad stewed or sautéed. The jambalaya was certainly not traditional, and ironically was prepared more like an iron pot étouffée. Many dishes, including fried seafood, are prepared in cornmeal only and not x-contaminated with flour, and that makes it a good place to eat for celiacs needing gluten free food, like me. Friendly service by the owner. Everything home cooked. I would place this restaurant alongside Cactus Flower in that neither restaurant is authentic in terms of ethnic-based food. In other words, this is not Baton Rouge food. It's missing some Cajun flair in terms of the blends and lack of kick spices, especially white pepper. But, it's unique, authentic home cooked, tasty, and unique in style and presentation. There are more veggies with this cooking, and that makes it a bit healthier. Prices very reasonable. We will definitely return to try other dishes.
