I have had work done before by Hirst, but this time once I was given an estimate that was way above what I could afford, Steve Hirst became very rude once he had learned that someone else would be doing the work this time around. Was shocked by his response as we never had a problem before, maybe because I allowed them to do the work. Very disappointed and WILL not recommend anyone else to their business.

Hirst transmission has performed service on all four of my vehicles. They have done transmission service, clutch and flywheel replacement, transmission rebuilds etc., and their work has been exemplary. They are knowledgeable, and professional. I have enjoyed doing business with George, Steve and the staff.

I was having issues with my truck’s transmission and was putting off taking it in because I was new to the area and didn’t have a mechanic I trusted here yet and I also feared the price tag of getting it fixed. After doing some asking around Hirst got suggested to me at least 3 times. I finally decided I would bite the bullet and take it in to be looked at. Additionally my job has very unpredictable hours and I could not make a reservation farther than 24 hours out. I called Hirst and just explained the issue I was having and my situation with work and he worked me in to the schedule the next morning. I showed up and Steve took my truck out to look at it almost immediately. As I was waiting in the office I noticed tons of letters tacked up on the wall and decided to read several. Each one praised Hirst for their timely, quality, and honest work. I was impressed as I have never even contemplated writing a letter thanking my mechanic as is is rare I leave with a very happy feeling. When Steve got back he informed me that while it could be the transmission that was causing the issue he suggested having a $35 part replaced before having a much more expensive operation done on the transmission. He sent me on my way as his shop only does transmission work (this was part of the engine) and told me to come back if it continued acting up or if I did the work myself and wanted the code cleared off. His honesty blew me away. In a profession where so many often take the route that makes them the most money he gave me a bit of free advice that saved me tons. I can’t thank him or his shop enough.

Bait and Switch

Specifically, I got a quote from this shop as well as 5 others to fix my vehicle. This shop as well as the 5 other shops all had quoted me a price within $25 of each other. This shop was recomended, so I chose this one to fix my vehicle. I took my vehicle to them and the next morning I received a call saying the cost to fix the vehicle was 300 HUNDRED dollars more than I was quoted. This is NOT to say that there was anything more to fix unexpected, just that they had misquoted the parts previously. MIND YOU I GOT SIX TOTAL QUOTES and these men actually got the prices of the parts, all quotes were basically the same. When I explained to the man that I had gotton other quotes and all were around the same price of his original quote, he told me that every one else I called was just trying to bait me into their shop (just like Hirst I guess). They really took my vehicle apart and then went up on the price by 300 dollars. What Am I Gonna Do About It, Its disassembled in their shop. Well When I called him out on it he decided to "eat it" (the extra charges) and went back to his original price, well close. I still had to pay 25$ more than the quote. NICE TRY BUDDY!!!!!!CLASSIC, RIGHT!!?!

I am the manager of Hirst and personally handled this customer. My first contact was several days before the actual repair. On this contact he asked multiple combinations of the repair and asked what the costs could be. I told him what i thought and offered to call and check prices on parts to varify but he understandably had to get back to work and did not have time. Upon disassemble of the vehicle, the prices of the parts were surprisingly higher than anticipated. Now comes the "bait and switch" accusation. Although the verbal qoute(not written estimate) was inaccurate. What he fails to state is that at this time I offered the disassemble at no charge. But I warned that if he hadn't gotten written estimates from those "other guys" then he would likely be in the same position at there facility. As mentioned before he was refered to me by another general repair shop and I felt compelled, as We always do, to make the customer happy. therefore, I severely cut the labor cost to make the job work. Upon arrival to pick the vehicle up, he then became outraged that the price had tax added to it. GROW UP, BUDDY!!!!! EVERYONE IN THE REAL WORLD PAYS TAXES. Death and taxes, sound familiar? I bent over backwards to make this customer happy and finshed the vehicle repairs extremely quickly. Not only am I the manager of Hirst but my last name is HIRST! Proud of it and my business! Please don't let the review of one, unrealistic customer turn you away. Come see me, Stephen Hirst, at Hirst Transmission.

Very Customer Oriented, Very Knowledgeable

Nr. Steve Hirst has always treated the customers respectfully, and right. He has always responded to the customers questions. He has explained to the costumer the ;problems foreseen and what it would take to fix it. HIs work has always been timely. His cost have been a little above average and I have contributed this to the cost of his operations. He personally checks the vehicles for final inspection. He is dynamic when it comes to backing up his work and his knowledge of transmissions; I only wish my doctors knew as much!

I send a lot of work his way, and I feel supportive by his conduct.
