After being ignored at GCCH I took my 78 year old mother, who had difficulty breathing, to BMC, where she was immediately admitted and treated. The employees were nice and professional, the complete opposite of Gulf Coast.

Wouldn't go anywhere else!

Have had wonderful experiences every time I've had to have a procedure. Even when I had to stay for a week, I had a great staff taking care of me.

DO NOT RECOMMEND for the unins...

DO NOT RECOMMEND for the uninsured, under insured, and those people who have no medical benefits and for those who do not qualify for medical programs such as Medicare or Medicaid. Bay Medical Center does not follow the same mission as Sacred Heart Hospital and is a Tax-Exempt Organization who is not following IRS Tax Exempt Rules under the Affordable Care Act and is refusing to inform patients of their financial aid policy and screen uninsured patients for financial aid eligibility. BMC has been engaging in filing lawsuits against patients stating they are not eligible for charity or financial aid without going through the actual procedures to properly screening patients by having them fill out a financial aid application and provide individual income information. From discussion with several local bankruptcy attorneys, the hospital is quick to sue for payment and is not willing to negotiate fees to fair and reasonable prices which goes against Internal Revenue Code 501r requirements. If you Google IRS 501r tax-exemption requirements, you will find it says tax-exempt hospitals are not to engage in extraordinary collection actions without making reasonable efforts to determine financial eligibility and that obtaining a signed waiver does not constitute compliance with reasonable efforts requirements or making financial aid determination requirements. The IRS definitions online of extraordinary collection actions included lawsuits, negative credit reporting, garnishments, etc. BMC bills should be reviewed by a medical care advocate and will show that BMC charges uninsured patients for items, supplies, and services which would not be charged to a contracted insurance company. Additionally, the amount BMC charges is excessive in comparison to what is considered to be fair and reasonable per the Healthcare Bluebook and other medical services and medical costs resources. This includes Gulf Coast Medical Center's estimated costs. If you are not insured, have a high deductible, have a large co-pay, BUYER BEWARE. Patients with no insurance would be better off shopping around for their procedural costs and negotiating cost of the procedure before having the procedure performed. Patients should enlist the assistance of a medical cost billing advocate and a consumer lawyer if they are unsure of the honesty of their medical bills so they can be reviewed for compliance with medical billing regulations. If you were not informed of BMC's financial aid policy, not given a financial aid application, not asked for financial information to determine financial aid eligibility, were not given any opportunity to apply for financial aid, refused a financial aid application and you requested it, refused a copy of the financial aid policy and requested, and then found yourself sued by this hospital, the IRS does have a form 13909 Tax-Exempt Organization Complaint (Referral) Form where people can report these types of organizations. It can be found on the IRS website. Further, if your debt collection letter cited prejudgment interest, costs, and attorneys fees, or other amounts, but no specified amount in addition to the actual debt, you may want to consult a debt defense attorney for consultation and ask if they are knowledgeable about the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act.

bay medical is not what i woul...

bay medical is not what i would recommend for a family.they say to be professionals but i just get rude attitudes, nurses who dont know how to draw blood or take out iv's,rude kitchen staff, and the security team is lacking stability.a few monthes back a lady in a coma was sexually assaulted and the person who did it managed to get away.alot of people with drugissues will go to bay med and pretend to be in pain to get pain medicine i sadly used to know someone who did that.the place could be alot cleaner and friendlier.people on medicaid get treated differently and the doctors are cold short and dont take time with the patients,i know i am one of them.and if my friends or family needed medical attention i wouldnt reccomend bay medical at all.gulf coast would be better
