I still remember 30 years ago, riding in the car with my older sister as my Mom drove us to our first dance class. We drove in a few circles and finally found the small, intimate dance studio near 50th and Leavenworth--Shannon Barnhart Dance Studio. Shannon moved her studio twice over the years and we followed. We took additional classes offered as we got older. We became assistants and enjoyed teaching the younger kids. We grew up there. Now, as my 7 year old enters her 5th year @SBDS and my 10 year old enters her 8th year @SBDS, I look back at all the time, money and sweat and I know it is all worth it. At SBDS, the dancers want to do well because Shannon, Jessi, Cathy and their team of assistants have standards based on hard work, positive attitudes, kindness, fairness, generosity and team work. My daughters have been encouraged and engaged in this experience. It's not Shannon's goal to create great dancers...it's to help mold young people who just happen to be passionate, talented dancers. It is to provide a creative environment that is rooted in solid values. The results are there and I see how each year my girls grow to be more confident, courageous, creative, bold, compassionate, driven and inspired.Shannon draws in dancers from baby ballerinas to adults. And she won't let us alums sit on the sidelines. Several years ago she started an advanced tap class and wouldn't let me say "no" to joining. It was a struggle to get my brain to reconnect with my feet, but I pushed through and I thank God that Shannon wouldn't take "no" for an answer. I even braved the first alumni class this past year.My girls and I have a blast every dance class we take. We dance EVERYWHERE! It's infectious!As a parent, I know that I have to have people that help me raise my children. It's never just the parents; it's the teachers, the coaches, the mentors in life who also impact our children. The love, care and true relationships that my girls have with each of the teachers at SBDS-regardless if they are the actual teachers for their classes or not-is undeniably unbreakable. I know in my heart this is where my girls belong...where we belong.We thrive at SBDS--our home away from home, it is our family. It's a family that comes together to support each other, help out and make each of our dancers shine---literally (bling, bling, blinging those costumes).I can't place a value on how much it means to know that my daughters and I have a place like SBDS. It's not just 1 thing that make SBDS standout, it's everything...the teachers, assistants, dancers, parents, crews and supportive family that make it stand STRONG!

Shannon does an amazing job with her students. The thing that jumps out about Shannon is that she has a world of experience but yet has the enthusiasm of a new teacher. I just marvel at her excitement and at the same time calmness during dance comps and recitals when things can be stressful.My daughter looks forward to going to Shannon's every time and always comes home having learned something and feeling energized. It is a always fun to see the improvement in my daughter and all the students fro am the beginning of the year til recital time. It is really impressive to see such improvement.The most impressive things about Shannon's studio are the teamwork, kindness,perseverence, and sportsmanship that Shannon stresses throughout the year.. Winning has its place and is funbut the above values are stressed as being more important at SBDS.When you measure the benefits and the results of this studio versus the costof attending Shannon Barnhart Dance studio is an excellent value for the money!!!

My daughter has been a student at SBDS for 6 years. The teachers and assistances are very talented. They know how to make each dancer feel confident in their abilities. You and your child always feel like a part of a big family.

My daughter has been attending SBDS for 6 years now..She loves all the different styles of dance that SBDS offers and the wonderful caring teachers who treat her like one of the family..SBDS also offers a weekly summer camp for dance company and non dance company students that my daughter looks forward to attending every summer..Parents are allowed to watch students practice or they can drop off students and shop in the local neighborhood full of antique shops, yoga center, supermarket, and eateries..My daughter loves the intimate feel of SBDS and the monthly dancer of the month students that get featured on the main studio wall along with the very organized 3 dance recitals that are usually held the 2nd weekend in june...Give SBDS a try ..your son or daughter can try a line class or tryout for dance company in june in which they compete usually 3x a year...SBDS has some of the nicest and most experienced dance teachers in the metro! ..open every day except fri and sun..

I know some might look at dance as an unnecessary expense, that its just a hobby. But for my daughter that isn’t the case. People come from all walks of life, backgrounds etc. My daughter doesn’t look at dance as just a hobby. She looks at as a therapy outlet for her. They aren’t just dancers, teachers or studio owners. They are sisters, mothers, counselors, & friends. My daughter started as such a shy child who played it safe and stayed behind the scenes. After my daughter endured a very difficult year she over came all hurdles and took a chance and stepped out of the box. I could try and take the credit for that myself but that wouldn’t be accurate. For my daughter coming out of her shyness I have to Thank Shannon and Jessi. They push her to utilize her talents not mask them. They teach not only my daughter but all the girls that some might be in the spotlight more than others, or others might do a solo, duet, or trio, but they are all a part of the team and that one dancer isn’t more important than the other. That we are all there to cheer each other on no matter how small the role might be. They truly go to all lengths to individually understand each girl, their lives and their needs. I am so thankful to have Shannon Barnhart studio for my daughters to be a part of.
