Morton Middle School, established in 1965, was named after J. Sterling Morton who is remembered for his lifelong interest in trees and is given credit for originating Arbor Day. The school serves more than 700 students in grades seven and eight. It offers special education, speech therapy, and gifted and talented education programs that help students in developing various abilities and learning styles. The school involves parents and community members in providing volunteer and financial assistance for academic and extracurricular opportunities through the Adopt-A-School program and a parent-teacher association. Its academic curriculum includes various subjects, such as English, math, social studies and science. Located in Omaha, Neb., Morton Middle School is a part of Omaha Public Schools.
