Complaint: My wife and I signed a contract with gabriel homes to build our family a home out over looking ********* lake with a set price for what we wanted in our home. Signed this contract june 11, 2013, and gave builder $15,000 in earnest money deposit. closing date was to be dec 19, 2013 as set forth by builder. Our family found a rental house with a lease term for six months to live in while house was to be built, also we locked in our interest rate for those 6months for a fee of $1200. As it turns out this builder after failure to return calls or text messages, tells me on Sept 19th that hes not building our home? No reason, given or not even enough respect for me or my family to call and tell me. I had to go find him at a sub division where he was about to sign another contract with another couple. This is where he told me he wasnt building our house. So over three months of wasted time, wasted time in a rental house, wasted time on our interest rate, he decides hes not building the house. This builder did the song and dance before signing the contract, getting back to you with questions, and when you'd call, but the minute you sign that contract it would take days if not a week for him to call you back. My wife and I spoke with some other people that had a home built by him and we asked how was he to work with. They said "we have a hard time getting him to call back when we call, we have to call 3-4 times or just go find him at another house being built Or you'd have to go find him at another jobsite." My family just wants our house built, I am throwing away money renting when it should be paying a house payment. Were at the mercy of whatever interest rates are on dec 23 when our 6mth interest rate lock has expired and out the money it cost to lock it in for that six months. Builder even told me on monday sept 16, that he wasnt sure he could even build in miami co. Really?? isn't that something he should have known before signing a contract to build our home there??????????????? please learn from our mistake so you don't have to go thru what we've had to.
