Oliveto has a twofold identity: downstairs - patrons find themselves in the cafe hub of a busy neighborhood, which serves informal foods and is open all day, every day; upstairs the location offers a fine-dining restaurant that is known internationally for its traditional Italian dishes made from local, seasonal products. The restaurant s dining room is adorned only with hand-wrought iron railings and sconces, olivewood paneling, windows along two walls, granite counters, art by local artists and large arrangements of garden flowers. The cafe serves supper from its informal, trattoria-style menu, offering thin-crusted pizzas, baked pastas and baked main courses from a wood-fired oven, and salads, soup and antipasto from a short menu, which facilitates quick service. Oliveto is located in Oakland, Calif.
