If I could give this place 0 stars, I would, all based on one outrageous incident, and years of services was overshadowed about what just happened. Even if this does not deter people from visiting this liquor store, at the very least, at least I can vent my frustrations. I have lived down the street from Joe's Food Mart for over 10 years. Over the years, I spent tons of money here on a variety of items. Today, January 6th at appx 8pm, my mother and I stopped by this store to pick up a couple items. I elected to stay in the car while she went in to purchase. Since I parked directly in front of the store, I had a clear view of her as she was checking out. When I first noticed the cashier, (whom I believe is a newer employee) did the security check for the $20 bill she paid with, I didn’t blink an eye. OK, this is totally normal and to be expected at any business, especially in this day and age. However, I noticed he kept checking the bill and held it to the light at least 10 times. I guess since she is an elder black lady, he automatically believed the bill to be counterfeit. I understand checking the bill once and even double checking, but his actions were way over the top and he went out of his way to ensure she felt uncomfortable. She later told me she informed him she just took money out of the ATM and could provide a receipt for proof, however, he ignored her and continue to make sure the $20 bill was legit. She stated he could not find the pen which can show if a bill is counterfeit our not. When she got in the car, we were discussing what happened and while we are talking, we observed the customer behind her, who was non black, also pay with a bill and the cashier did not even attempt to see if that bill was counterfeit. He was such in a rush to finish up with him so he could come outside to take what I assumed to be my license plate. (It was this action that prompted me to write this review.) Since I have a new car, there were no plates. Guess since we are black, we stole the car too (this is a facetious statement.... felt the need to disclose that). Needless to say, I will NEVER, EVER spend a dime at this place, just for principal. Which is too bad, since the older gentleman, who assume is the owner, is truly a nice person but he needs hire non-racist employees.
