Dr. Muranski trained as a Hematologist and Oncologist at the Hematology Branch of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland where he subsequently worked as a faculty in the Stem Cell Allogeneic Transplantation Section. At NHLBI he has conducted studies on using T cells for prevention and treatment of common viral infections affecting bone marrow transplant recipients. He has also developed first-in-human study of adoptive immunotherapy for patients with JC virus-associated Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML). In addition, he has completed the research fellowship in cancer immunology and immunotherapy at the Surgery Branch, National Cancer Institute, NIH. He joined Columbia University in 2017 as the Director of Cellular Immunotherapy. Dr. Muranski specializes in bone marrow transplant (BMT). He is a principal investigator at the Columbia Center for Translational Immunology and a member of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. His laboratory focuses on developing potent T lymphocytes for adoptive immunotherapy of viral infections and cancer.
