Grandmaster Frank J. Marshall founded this historic chess club in 1915. The Marshall Chess Club was incorporated in 1922, and has been headquartered at 23 West 10th Street since 1931. Frank James Marshall was born in New York City on August 10, 1877. In 1895, the Marshall family moved to Montreal where Frank joined the Montreal Chess Club, quickly establishing a reputation among the leading players of Montreal.

The Marshall Chess Club is the best place in the United States to play, compete, and learn about chess, the world's preeminent intellectual pastime. For beginners to grand masters. The Marshall Chess Club has a rich tradition, founded by Grand Master Frank Marshall in 1915. This world-famous club, located in an elegant brownstone in historic Greenwich Village, is a wonderful venue to meet interesting people and make new friends.
