I purchased a Hq backpack blower in 2012 from the previous owner/business, Seed Planters & Supply. The owner's son tried to help me then, but he was young and inexperienced OBVIOUSLY. His father stepped in and not only handled me professionally and courteously, but was so good he sold me an extended warranty (which I now regret since he is no longer in business) which included a case of synthetic mixed fuel w/ instructions that only that fuel could be used in my machine for them to honor the warranty (their price for the fuel is TWICE as much as it is at Lowes), and I even commented at the time that someone needed to take lessons from him as he was such a good salesperson; I too am in sales. Well, I came back in 2013 for my warranty inspection. I brought the machine in empty of fuel, but when I picked it up, it had brown gas + 2 cycle oil in it versus the red pre-mixed synthetic fuel that I was instructed to use in order to honor my warranty; that should have been and was essentially my second red flag. The first red flag was the fact that Seed Planters was no more but the son was still there although the father sold out and got out while the getting was good. When I mentioned to the son about the fuel issue, I was given a dismissive non-answer about how they couldn't afford to use the pre-mixed fuel for their service work...although NOT using it VOIDS the warranty. I was told that since it was my first warranty inspection, that my machine would now be 'registered' so that my warranty period started then, giving me more time essentially. This year, 2014 I go in for another inspection, son is still there, and he was steeped in condescension. He agreed to do the warranty inspection, but when I questioned him further about the warranty itself, I now had to have proof of purchase... I reminded him that a year earlier he said he would 'register' my machine ( I was also told that BY HIM when I purchased it initially from Seed Planters) in their current 'system' and NOT the Seed Planters system. He gave me a dismissive 'ok', and I asked him if he could 'look me up' to see if I was in fact in the system. "I guess I could do that...you want me to do it now?" I told him I had driven an hour to get the inspection as the store is not convenient to where I live. "So, why are you telling me that?" Then, I assume a manager got involved and sternly asked me I guess, "What's the problem?" So I'm standing there in a shirt and tie, trying to get service that I was told I would get when I gave these people my money. Granted, the previous store actually got my money, however I was already told in 2013 that they would register my machine and honor my warranty. Additionally, I'm obviously doing yard work of some sort if I purchased a $500 backpack blower, I might need a mower ( I do) or a trimmer, or a chain saw, or I might need to rent some equipment... Well, after I was dressed down my the so-called manager or whoever this person was, I decided to take my equipment with me and not have it inspected. It was the most unprofessional service experience I've ever had the displeasure to have to deal with. I will be quite surprised to see this company still in business a year from now; if they are it will be because the son and at least one other similar-personality type person have been fired and banned from the premises. Or they'll be in the news because some unstable lunatic type person will come in for service or to make a purchase and be treated badly and just slap go off... The customer service at Lowes is like Disney compared to this place. Save your money, get better service, shop at Lowes.
