i needed a couple of stumps removed and an old flower bed to be uprooted. I already cut the trees myself and pulled up the bed but needed the root system removed.



Mike came out and took a look. He quoted $800 to do the job. When he came out, he had nothing but a chain saw, a rake and a rope. When he couldn't pull the stump out, he began cutting the other trees shorter to make busy while the stump man showed up.



The stump man was evidently subcontracted but I didn't know this. He did a great job and I was sure the job would be completed so I wrote Mike the check for $800. He charged Mike $200 and went about his way. Mike began to load up and leave after doing virtually nothing. He explained that the ground was too wet to level out and would come back the next day.



I asked specifically about the roots being pulled out and he said he would come with his skid steer and level it out. the job is still incomplete and it's been over a month now. I would not recommend this company.

BEWARE! I met and engaged Southern Tree and Lawn at my residence to cut down a small limb on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 from the roof of my house. The owner (Mike Petsch) gave me a written bid. I told him that I would like to engage him and paid him cash. He told me that he would be able to cut it down the following morning (June 12). I called Mr. Petsch around 3:30p that afternoon and left him a voice message (I was curious if everything went ok). He called back around 5:45p telling me that he was at my house @ 2:30p and could not complete the work because a vehicle was in the way. I called someone at my house to move the vehicle so the work could be completed. When I called Mr. Petsch back (around 6:10p) to tell him that the vehicle was moved, he told me that all his workers were gone. I asked if he could do it the next day (Friday, June 13). He told me that he couldn't because it was son's birthday. He offered to give me my money back. I asked when would the next available time to take care of my limb would be. He told me the first thing Monday (June 16) morning. I agreed. I called on Monday (June 16) @ 12:30p to see how the cutting went. He didn't answer and I left a message. I called back again @ 3:45p and was able to get in contact with Mr. Petsch. He told me that he still hasn't cut the limb and that he wouldn't be able to unless I paid him $600. He told me that he other jobs that were paying him much more and that he would do those jobs first. He said that he would give me my money back; this has yet to be done.



I do not trust this company. If he was at my house @ 2:30 on Thursday and couldn't do the job because of a vehicle, he should have called me and I could have had the vehicle moved. Even better, if he would have just knocked on the door of my house, someone would have been able to move the vehicle. I thought it was real convenient for him to call me after all of his workers were gone.
