The South Carolina Lawyer Referral Service, a part of the Public Services Division of the Bar, provides referrals to members of the public based on brief descriptions of the callers' legal situations. It also provides referrals to social services and other entities and programs in appropriate situations. All lawyers on the Service must be in good standing with the South Carolina Bar, maintain malpractice insurance coverage and agree to provide a one-half hour consultation for no more than $50. After the first half-hour consultation, the lawyer¿s usual fee rate applies.
