Salem Electric, founded in 1938, is a nonprofit, member-owned electric cooperative. The cooperative serves more than 20,000 consumers in over 18 square miles of area. It has over 50 employees and is owned and operated by the consumers who use its services. The cooperative offers services that include electronic drafting, budget billing and various payment options. In arrangement with local banks, the cooperative offers several loan programs to customers participating in its WeatherWise, Heat Pump and BrightWay Solar programs. It has a Web site that provides information about various programs of the cooperative. In addition, the cooperative provides an online bill payment option to its customers and members.
