I have used Protect a Deck in the past (between 2007-2012) for my deck, pressure washing of my home and gutter cleaning. The workers were pleasant to work with, however the owner has always been disappointing and I cannot recommend them at all. When there was an issue with the work on two occasions, Greg, the owner, begrudgingly addressed my issues. I've never heard of a business owner behaving that way especially if they expect to retain a customer. However, since they were the only company i knew for this type of work, i continued to use them and called them again this year to get a quote for my deck and a fence I recently had installed (since I felt they did quality work). This is where things went downhill:

1) I found Greg, the owner, to be EXTREMELY unresponsive. It took a while to get a call back.

2) When I finally got him on the phone in early May, he was very rude to me as if I was bothering him. But I give people the benefit of the doubt and still decided to get a quote.

3) After calling him back to ask some basic questions about the quote, I told him I would call him back if I wanted to move forward. I decided to move forward a couple of days later and left him a voicemail (he said he could do my fence in June at full price and the deck in July for an annual discount the company typically offers if i waited for July for the deck). I asked him to confirm that he could still do the fence project in June (especially since I was planning a 4th of July

party and wanted the work done). Needless to say, Greg DID NOT call me back. This should have been a sign.

4) It is now July and I've heard nothing about the fence project or the timing of the deck project. I called Greg because I hadn't gotten a phone call, update or anything in almost 8 weeks. He surprisingly called me back but was very rude to me to the point of me leading me to tears (and I am not a person who cries). All I wanted was an update on my project so I can know what I need to do. However, he said "whatever" when I asked if he could call me in the future to give me an update. At that point, he told me that he doesn't want to do my project and I should call someone else. I was in complete shock. He proceeded to talk over me very loudly and would not let me speak. He went on to call me cheap, bothersome and a trouble maker because I had asked him to fix some things that his workers had done wrong in the past. I felt like i had been punched in the gut and slapped in the face.

I'm a very reasonable person and I can understand that it has been very rainy in Charlotte so things are behind schedule (which was his excuse). But, I have been nothing but patient. And it's pretty hard to know what's going on when the company won't return your call, give you an update, etc. I cannot support a company like this. I have lost a whole two months waiting to get this done by someone who ended up being extremely disrespectful and unreliable. And in reality, I'm ashamed that I was even willing to continue using them only because I didn't know of any other companies. But I'm happy that he finally revealed his true colors because I'd rather spend my money with a company that deserves it. Save yourself the time, money and headache. Do not use this company. Greg's lack of professionalism is a deal breaker, and if you ever have a problem with them, trust me, he will say it's your problem and will treat you like you are nothing. No one deserves that, especially when you're spending your hard earned money.
