A reliable standard since 1975

The first time I bought a part from Post Road Used Auto (PRUA) was

way back in 1975, when I was a sophmore in college. I had a 1968

Triumph TR-250 that I had bought in late 1974, and the brake master

cylinder (Mc) needed replacing within months of when I bought the car.

I called several of the usual parts stores, ForeighAuto Parts, and

a couple shops that specialized in sports cars in Brighton. The

situation for the Mc in that Triumph was dire: The TR-250 was the TR-6

prototype, and everything in the two models, except body parts,

was the same.

After calling around, I came up with the shortest backlog

waiting time of 6 months for a TR-250/6 Mc. The cost for a rebuilt

ranged from $119 to $135. A parts maker had a kit on the market

for many of the car's parts - TR-6 Mc kits had a minimum backlog

wait of 18 months.

"Well, there's always the junkyards," I figured to myself. Linder's was

my first call, and they had two Mcs in good shape and one in ok shape.

For the good ones, he wanted $110, and $45 for the other.

Then I tried Goldie's, their Quincy shop had one from a 1972 TR-6,

and they wanted about $95. Living n Newton, I didn't want to drive

to Quincy unless I had to.

And my laziness paid off.

I called Post Road in Marlborough, which I knew had a good

reputation among my motorhead friends. I said what I was looking

for, and hell's bells, I had someone on the phone who knew his

sh** really well. Without even executing a search, he said, "Oh,

yea, I got a 1975 TR-6 that was torched. About 95 percent of

the parts are still good. I removed the firewall and the master cylinder

yesterday, and the cylinder is like new."

I took a deep breath and said, "How much?" He told me and I said,

"Well, if it's like new, $135 isn't bad, a brand new one from British

Leyland is $285, and a rebuilt is at least $120. He said, "No, I said

you can have that one I pulled out last night for $35."

Here I am 33 years later, and - every - single - time - I've needed

a part, if PRUA has it, the price is more than reasonable, and I am

batting 1.000 in quality and condition of the parts I've bought there.

No joke.
