We had a few trees damaged in the April storms. Called J&J and Jason came out the next day to looked at the project and advised us of the trees that we could thin and save and the ones that need to come down. He was very helpful and had his crew out within a few days to get the work done! We are very happy with the service we received and the work that was done!

As you can see from the other ratings - you will get either 5 star service or 1 star service from this company. We took them at their word and ended up with the 1 star version. We found them to be dishonest, rude, reckless and hostile. The owner, Jason Smith, did not keep appointments with us and refused to take full responsibility to the damages he caused to us and our neighbors.

Here is an outline of the work and problems:

October 11th, 2015 – Jason Smith of J&J Stump & Tree Removal came to the house to review the trees that needed to be removed and discuss the project.
Details of this meeting: 5 trees for removal. Remaining trees trimmed to approximately 20ft from the ground. Removal of the cedar tree due to hazard. Cedar tree was to be removed into the garden area. All other trees to be removed onto the vacant lot area at the adjacent lot.

December 16th. The crew removed a tree and dropped it across the road into our neighbor’s yards. This had been specifically discussed as not an option for the removal process. The vacant lot and the garden area were the only places to be used for falling trees. This action destroyed the neighbors favorite Japanese Maple, put holes in the road, damaged the side of the house, damaged the gutter and damaged the other neighbors newly laid sod lawn. The crew also drove the truck through the new lawn leaving deep indentations in the yard. We did not know the full extent of the damage for some time. The neighbor came to us later about the Japanese Maple. It was noticed missing and the bark dust was raked over the stump which had been cut off at ground level.

December 17th I left early for a business trip and did not return until Saturday. At this point I saw that they had way over trimmed the trees to 50-60ft and the wood had all been cut to the wrong length. It was supposed to be cut to firewood length of 16 inches. With few exceptions the wood was cut to 19-24 inch length. This meant it all had to be re-cut. Huge waste of time and energy.

Later the stump grinder came to the house – he did not call as promised or use the correct access that I told him to use. He took his equipment through the front yard damaging the lawn. He pulled open a locked gate damaging the lock. Proceeding through the back yard he damaged lawn with his equipment there as well.

Several voice messages had been left for Jason to call and set up a time to meet and review the issues. On 3 occasions I spoke with Jason on the phone and from this two meetings were set. Jason did not show up to either or bother to call to reschedule.

On my return from a trip I found that the damaged tree had been replaced with a small maple. The damaged Maple had a value of approximately $250. The replacement retails for approximately $20. The asphalt was patched. At this point Jason stopped communication with us. No explanation has been offered as to why he has not come to the house or why our wishes were not followed.
Specific Requests:
To provide a written agreement.
To trim the trees to a height of approximately 20ft.
To only drop trees and limbs on our property in the garden area and the vacant property adjacent.
To cut the wood to firewood length.
To use care to not damage any of the neighbors property.

After trying to use several other tree services I finally found the one jason at jj tree. He was here on time gave me full scope of all our options he even went extra mile helping us to recover some money for our trees as the others were going to steal it by selling logs. I will forever use jj tree and the guys were very helpful and super courteous we were over joyed the way they took care of our place. Thanks jason your crew and you were amazing.

Great service and best price. I checked on the license,bond and insurance it is all active. I'd recommend them to anyone needed tree work done.

Called for a estimate on the removal of a few trees and had someone at the house that same day. Crew was very nice and did a great job. We will use them again!

I scheduled 5 trees and stumps to be removed on a specific day and time so I could be present during the process. Crew arrived 2 hours earlier than scheduled time, so I was unable to meet them, as was arranged originally. Had they knocked on the door or called me I would have been able to come home from work to meet them earlier. I had specifically asked for the chips to be left but the foreman dropped them off for the neighbor in his yard. He refused to move them or offer a solution. Later he did say he would bring more chips by, but we have yet to see them. When my wife realized they were early and cutting on our property she attempted to speak with the foreman, he was extremely rude, screaming and ranting that they arrive when they are ready to do the job. When asked about the stump removal he yelled that we were ridiculous to think they would do it on the same day. When I phoned Jason to discuss what happened, who I spoke with originally, he never .bothered to return my phone call. They did return to grind the stumps over a week later and never bothered to knock on the door or let me know when they would be arriving. Very rude foreman and even the neighbor came over and apologized for how rude he was to my wife. I would never use this company again - very poor communication. The trees did get removed, but any tree service can do the same without the rude behavior.

We recently had J & J Tree and Stump Removal do a largejob of removing a number of large trees and crown three large maple trees in our front yard. The crew was fast, efficient and got the job done in two days. They cut all the trees in wood size for firewood and cleaned up their work in a good manner.Furthermore, the price was very good. We are extremely happy with the work and will probably have them back in the future. We certainly recommend them. Claudia & Mike

J and J came in with a great quote from both removal of yard debris (juniper) and trees. Plus they sump grinned all remaining roots. Not only did they do a phenomenal job they did it quick, so that the yard project could be finish in time. I would recommend them to anyone who needs to clear a space.

I had called J&J and set up an appointment for them to give me an estimate. The day of the estimate I called and verified they would be at my house. I was told that they would be there shortly. After waiting 45 minutes beyond the time arraigned, I called again to see where they were. I was told that it would be another 40 minutes before they could even get to my house. At that point I decided to call someone else.

I have had them come out and do trimming of my property trees and a big one in my front yard a couple years ago. Liked them so much and the price i called them back for emergency storm damage on my trees that fell on the house and in the road, oh and the big one finally had to come down. My 80' Deodar Cedar tree, real reasonable. The stump grinding even was nice on the 4' diameter round left. thanks guys!
