Bad workmanship, bad estimate, slow worker

I requested that Handyman Matters replace a bathroom panel door and stain the install. The verbal quote was 2.5 hours for the whole thing, including the errand time to purchase the panel and stain. The installer upon arrival spent an excessive time "eyeballing" the door after taking measurements...not sure what type of analysis he was doing, as it was a standard door size. I know because I'd already measured it before asking for an estimate. Because I was still in the process of stripping the doorframe of paint, I informed him that I would no longer require that he stain the door, as I might accidentally smear some softened paint and need to sand it anyway. (Note: This is when I assume it will now take less time and be under budget, as I've removed a time consuming part of the service) He took about an hour to go purchase the door panel, when I live 13 minutes each way to the nearest home center...again not sure why there was a delay. He unloaded his tools and proceeded to use the old door as a template for the new one. He cut and chiselled, made numerous (lengthy) trips back to his vehicle, doing who knows what, as a hole saw, a chisel, a hammer, a power drill, and a power planer seemed sufficient to me. Upon bringing in the door and sizing it to the frame, it didn't fit. After taking the door back outside, I'd noticed that he'd arrogantly put all the tools away...again, not sure why, other than an excuse to bleed the entire estimate out of me. He shaved it more and tried again, but to no avail. The third try was the charm, followed by what seemed like an eternity installing the doorknob. Upon closer review of the hanging door, I noticed grass stains in the wood from where he'd not put down any type of tarp (more work for me), the planing was fairly uneven and unprofessional. I could have done better with a hand plane. And he didn't sand down any of the rough edges. The final hour tally was 2.75 hours and $290, to put in an unfinished wood panel, and I didn't get the door stained.

Great work

I have had quite a bit of work done on my house over the years, generally remodeling a room at a time as I could afford it. I've used many different companies, but never the same one twice because I've never been completely satisfied for various reasons. Then I found Handyman Matters to remodel my downstairs bathroom. The shower needed some fixing, not to mention a facelift. And the cabinets needed lots of work. The craftsman showed up on time, gave me a fair estimate, did beautiful work, cleaned up afterward, and stayed on budget. The next time I need ANY work done around the house, I will not hesitate to call Handyman Matters. Thanks for a job well done.
