This company owns Nashville Parent Magazine, which I had a really disappointing experience with. I’m sure this was just an isolated incident because they seem like a great company. I was just a little shocked by the co-owners behavior since they claim to be a family friendly magazine. Basically my kid won a cover contest and they did a photo-shoot in which she was placed in a boy’s costume. Co-owner and Editor Susan Day obviously didn't know my daughter was a girl before we arrived, so she kindly gave us a girl’s custom. Surprisingly, when the cover came out, they published the photo with her in a boy’s custom. When I expressed concerned Susan Day said; sorry, the boy costume matched our color scheme and while I understand your disappointment, there are far too many kids in the world for me to be concerned about your child’s cover photo or how she is portrayed in the community… we’ll throw a photo of her in the girls costume in the back of our next issue.

Not a big deal, but an eye opener when it comes to entering your kid into contests and signing photo releases. In hindsight if I had a problem with the costume I should have declined the shoot. You live and learn, but I still thought this was pretty heartless for a family magazine.
