Latitude 41 - Mystic, CT - 8/9/2015 & 8/14/2015

THIS...IS FINE DINING!.. OVER THE TOP!!!

So incredible is this restaurant we came back less than a week later with our friends...

So... Where do I begin...? I'm always seeking out that next special dining adventure and find Lattitude 41 in Mystic... I love the convenience of online booking... I mention in the reservation that we are celebrating my birthday and are looking for an extraordinary dining experience...

We arrive and are greeted by a very friendly hostess who seats us out on the patio...
Our server, Selena was awesome. Chef Andrew Fine comes out to our table to talk to us about our food likes and dislikes and comes up with some special recommendations.

First out is the fresh warm sliced bread with house whipped butter... The butter has chunks of flavored sea salt that give it a very distinctive flavour... Generally speaking if the bread is good... The meal is too...

Then for appetizers the first night... A lobster and Asparagus Crepe (Grilled Asparagus with large chunks of fresh lobster in a Sherry Cream sauce) and a Prosciutto Flat Bread that will just ignite the senses beyond anything they've ever experienced... Topped with Fig Jam, Gorgonzola, Prosciutto,Arugela and a Balsamic Reduction this is the absolutely best I've ver had! We had this again when we went back it was soooo good! As an added surprise, the chef brought out a Pork Belly Confit with an arrangement of fresh Greens, a Wasabi Paste topped with some sort of fried Rice Noodle I believe... Wow!

On our return, we also had the Argodolce Short Rib, Braised Short Ribs, Thai Chilli and Radicchio Slaw... A great cut of beef cooked to absolute perfection..., A clams dish with Chirrruso Sausage and some kind of a base that , like the Flat Bread before it was and unbelievable blend of colors and flavours. They even brought out some extra bread so soak it all up. In addition to that, a Prosciutto wrapped Scallop appetizer with some sort of BBQ Sauce that was to absolutely die for!

For the mains... We had The Seafood Cioppino- Scallops, Shrimp & Cod, Tomato Fennel, Lobster Broth and Grilled Ciabatta Crouton... This dish will have you experience Seafood in a whole other dimension! Along with that the Bronzino Fish Special... Brought in whole... Finned, Scaled and gutted... Cavity stuffed with ever so thinly sliced Lemons lightly grilled and finished in the oven. The Branzino is then topped with a Herb Buerre Blanc Sauce served with a side of Fingerling Potatoes and Garlic Broccolini! Between presentation and seasonings... Again... There aren't sufficient words in the English language to describe how amazing this dish was...

Upon our return, the ladies had the Swordfish... Grilled & finished in the oven with Chardonnay and Butter, placed on top of a Creamy Sun-Dried Tomato Risotto, paired with Grilled asparagus finished with Basil Pesto and Lemon Zest...

The gents had the Flambé Scallops... Cast Iron Seared... Accompanied with a Cauliflower Puree, Roasted corn Relish, topped with a Bourbon Bacon jam, Chive Creme Fraiche and Chive Infused Olive Oil... Then Flambeed table-side with 151!
Get a towel for this one... You're going to need it...

Overpriced and No Flavors

I went to Seaman's Inn for a wedding rehearsal dinner. I ordered the Baked Cod, which was topped with a tomato relish, and came with some veggies and two small potatoes. It sounds like a lot of food, but it wasn't. First of all it cost about $16, which is one of the cheaper meals (most at $20-27). It was presented nicely, but there was hardly any food, and had to outstanding flavors. It was all very plain. The breadcrumbs on top of the relish were mixed with too much mayo or sour cream so it was too creamy to be paired with fish. Before the meal, I chose to have the lobster bisque. It was warm, not hot, and was very runny. Again, no real flavors were there. I tried someone's clam chowder and it was too creamy as well. Small plain rolls were served with the meal and salad (again, no flavor). Service was very good, I must admit. They handled 25 people very well, and were very polite and professional. I also ordered a mojito, but found the flavor to be flat, and although there was mint in the drink, I could not find the flavor or it. Someone ordered the Key Lime Pie, and said it was extremely tart and sour, and they didn't even eat any of it. So the positives were: good service. Negatives were: overpriced, food not tasty. I would not recommend Seaman's Inne.
