The Community Department works under the government of Montclair, Calif., and provides staffing to the Planning Commission and Community Action Committee. It maintains a planning division that guides residents and developers through the development processes, coordinates project review with other departments and public agencies and processes information requests. The Community Department has a human services division that provides medical and mental health services and early childhood education, as well as operates a variety of senior citizen programs, including daily meal services. It coordinates involvement with various community groups, such as social service agencies, mental health clinics, medical liaisons and law enforcement groups. The department additionally issues home occupation and business permits.
