Acupuncture is an essential component of Traditional Chinese/Oriental Medicine that works with the natural energy system of the body to promote the body's ability to heal itself. The Chinese believe this vital energy, "Qi", is behind all life forms and processes. This energy flows along meridians, or pathways, and each meridian is associated with a particular physiological system and internal organ. TCM/OM is a comprehensive health care system using acupuncture, herbs, bodywork, nutritional therapy, and lifestyle changes. It uses tongue and pulse checks, medical history and other signs and symptoms to create a composite TCM/OM diagnosis from which a treatment plan is formulated. Profile and Credentials Mary E.K. Denison is a licensed acupuncturist and has a Master's Degree in Oriental Medicine; Acupuncture, classic Chinese herbal formulas, Gua Sha, Moxa, etc. She may incorporate Swedish massage techniques with acupuncture treatments, when needed. This may include acupressure and/or trigger point work. She has been in body work for over 20 years. Deep tissue, Swedish massage, or Foot reflexology is available as separate entities, also. Mary would love to speak to groups to introduce Acupuncture/Oriental Medicine. Please support acupuncturists who have passed the national exam given by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). The NCCAOM holds acupuncturists to high standards demanding certain criteria to be met before they are allowed to take the exam, and requires them to continue with advanced education in order to remain certified with them. This certification is a requirement by the State of MN for licensed acupuncturists. Medical doctors and chiropractors are not required by law to take this exam even though they practice a different medicine; thus, they may not have had complete training, or have continued with advanced education. Philosophy and Comments I believe in God and His Divine Wisdom and Healing. I practice Roman Catholicism and I have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, though, your views do not have to match mine in order for us to have a healing, working relationship. I treat, God heals and that message is honored by my company's name: Rapha-El Acupuncture Plus. "Rapha" means 'to heal' or 'healing', and "El" means 'God'. My company's name was chosen after the Archangel Raphael who endlessly shows his love for God by helping us to heal, as he was called by God to do.
