From its origin as a small local carrier in 1923, ABF Freight System has been transformed into one of North America's largest and most experienced motor carriers. ABF concentrates on national and regional transportation of general commodities freight, involving primarily LTL (less than truckload) shipments. General commodities include most freight, except hazardous waste, dangerous explosives, commodities of exceptionally high value, commodities in bulk and those requiring special equipment. ABF is the largest subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corporation. The company provides direct service to more than 30,000 points through a network of 300-plus service centers in all 50 United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. ABF Freight System s corporate headquarters are in Fort Smith, Ark. The West Allis, Wis., location is one of the company s many transportation terminals.
