I was getting to know the person my friend and I were playing with, when he mentioned he was the head of a company that imported sugar to Sweden. "Why are you playing this tiny, hilly goat track when you can obviously afford the four or five star golf courses around the Bay Area." In a slight European accent, he said, "I have been all over the world, and this is one of the most beautiful spots on earth. Just look at the top of that mountain." He pointed to Mt. Tam. I realized that I had been taking this course for granted and I haven't taken it for granted since. Go for the sheer scenery. Bring your cleats and be prepared to take a hike. You will find yourselves on a pleasant path through alternating pine, oak, bay laurel and towering redwoods. This is the place John Muir must have been thinking about when he said, "Golf is a good walk spoiled." If you make it to the fourth green, don't forget to turn around and admire the surroundings. Better yet, bring a camera. I give it four stars for the sheer beauty.
