Lindon (aka. "Poolsmith") does appear to have a working knowledge of pools, plumbing, pumps, filters, etc. However, I will never let him near my pool again.

We had a small leak in our light niche which we wanted to have addressed in before we closed the pool in for the year. At the end of Sep 2013, I was looking for a pool guy and one of the employees at Leslie's recommended Poolsmith. I called him about our issue, and the trouble started early. Lindon is consistently inconsistent. He will say he'll be there in a half an hour, and show up 3 or 4 hours later, or not at all. He'll say, "it's simple thing; should take, like, 20 minutes," and he'll be in your back yard for over 2 hours. Time commitment was a consistent issue. I spoke to him very sternly about this once, and he made a short-lived effort to improve his service. It didn't take.

Lindon has lots of ideas about how you can change this or that to improve your system or avoid issues in the future. Some of the ideas made sense to me, and they were things that he said were "easy." No matter how easy or difficult the job, it always took him much longer than he thought, and much longer than I expected.

By the end of Oct 2013 (more than 1 full month since we hired him), he had finally managed to drain the pool completely, patch the leak in the light niche, refill the pool completed (though it sat empty for a couple weeks), close the pool, and take apart much of the external pool plumbing. He was in our backyard probably 7 or 8 times during that month. The cold weather hit us, and we waited until mid-April to get him back out to finish what he had started (I was withholding final payment until the work was complete). Before he came back, we noticed that he had left too much water in the pool for closing and an ice block cracked the throat of our skimmer. "I thought we put a bottle or something in there," he said. Once everything was hooked back up, the pump ran terribly due to a lack a water coming in from the pool, the filter had very low pressure and it leaked around the lid. The light niche appeared to have been well-patched -- until we turned the light on and saw a steady stream of bubbles coming out of it.

Throughout the experience, Lindon never wrote anything down. No written estimates, nor invoices. He had also mentioned a couple times how he needed to have partial payments in order to get gas for his truck. I have text messages and emails documenting much of what I have mentioned above.

Overall, we're in worse shape than we were when we started. Part of me wants to force him to complete the work to my satisfaction, but the wiser part of me knows better than to allow him on my property again.

If the name Lindon or Poolsmith comes up when you need pool work done. RUN in the opposite direction. Do not learn the hard way, as I have. If I could give him ZERO stars, I would.
