Headquartered in Metairie, La., Causeway Police Department promotes the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission's highway safety enforcement initiatives, protects the property under the commission s control, and encourages safe vehicular travel on the Lake Pontchartrain causeway, and other highways and bridges within the jurisdiction of the department. The police department offers proactive enforcement and public education programs. It uses marked, semi-marked and unmarked police units and radar enforcement, and with the aid of the Louisiana State Police, implements aerial speed enforcement as part of its proactive patrols. A special response vehicle is located on the causeway to assist the police department with removing people from Lake Pontchartrain. The department s vehicles are equipped with mobile video recording devices for the safety of motoring public and officers, and to aid in the prosecution of criminal offenses.
