J.H. Florence Elementary School, opened in 1965, has an enrollment of more than 550 students in prekindergarten through sixth grade. It has a staff of nearly 65 full-time certified teachers and paraprofessionals that includes bilingual aides, nurses, guidance counselors, testing coordinators, instructional assistants, librarians, speech therapists, diagnosticians, physical education instructors, and art and music professionals. J.H. Florence Elementary School maintains a parent-teacher association that provides support and assistance to the school by organizing various fundraising events and activities, as well as provides scholarships to the students. The school organizes several cocurricular activities, such as book fairs, children's book weeks, Saturday tutorials and Red Ribbon Weeks. Located in Mesquite, Texas, J.H. Florence Elementary School conducts special classes in Title 1, bilingual teaching, physical education, and art and music.
