I moved from Prescott Valley, AZ to Mesa, AZ 12/18/10. I picked up a 26' U-Haul truck from the Prescott U-Haul with 1/4 tank of gas Friday 12/17/10. I filled it up the same morning to 1/2 tank of gas at a Fry's fuel station in Prescott Valley. I loaded up and moved Saturday 12/18/10 to Mesa. Once the truck was unloaded, I dropped it off to Shaffer Auto Repair Sunday 12/19/10 at approximately 10:15am. U-Haul called & told me that Shaffer had business hours from 9am-12pm on Sundays. When I arrived to Shaffer's, no one was onsite. I dropped it off with 1/4 tank of fuel and dropped the key in the box. In good faith, I thought I fulfilled my obligations to the rental contract. Without any calls or notification from Shaffer, they charged me $101.25 for 1/4 tank of gasoline, which I found on my bank statement. I called them and asked what the charge was for. The gentleman told me for an empty tank of gas. I arrived onsite and found that the tank was in fact empty. Someone either siphoned the fuel while the truck was sitting in their yard, or the fuel guage was broken. Shaffer was not interested in investigating my claim. They just wanted to unlawfully rob me when I had a fuel receipt and witness to the fact that I delivered it with 1/4 tank of gas. I will never do any business with this firm again. U-Haul, meanwhile, has been responsive and is working on my claim.
