I wish I checked out reviews o...

I wish I checked out reviews of this place before I sent my child here. The majority of the experience was a nightmare! When my child turned 1, they gave a birthday gift that was NOT age appropriate! The gift bag contained 2 tiny erasers (about the size of my thumb nail) and pencils. I don't have to tell you that these are choking hazards as well as poke a stick in your eye hazard! There were other things in there that didn't pose as a hazard, but just not age appropriate! One day when I came to pick my child up she was "teething" on one of the teachers flip flops! Why was this teacher bare foot in the first place! Children are required to wear closed toe shoes (some fire hazard) I think teachers should also have to wear closed toe shoes especially if you are responsible for getting my child out of the door in the case of a fire! AND keep them on your feet so my child can't reach them! On two occasions, the girl who opens in the morning (Angela was her name) was late getting to work and caused me to be late for work. The first time, no apology until I had to practically ask for one and the second time, no apology AT ALL! Very unprofessional girl. Not friendly, never greeted us in the morning or even spoke to us! A lot of the girls who worked there were like that. I have a real problem with people who don't acknowledge or speak to my baby! They were not happy to be there or work around children! I have heard girls complain about other children and parents aloud and across halls. The girls/"teachers" were always moved around to other rooms. There are tons of toys stacked in the hallway not to be played with. This was for months at a time. I never knew why. One time there were some toys that had been cleaned in the baby room sitting on a mat drying for at least a week. My child got a toy from the pile that had bleach water in it and it got all over her. They assure me that it didn't get in her mouth. They did replace the outfit, but toys should not be left out like that! One of the girls who would feed my child in the morning would complain about the way my baby's food would smell and she let me know it. I didn't want my child to eat some of the things that the school offered for snack because they were not healthy options. They were high sugared cereals and graham crackers and cereal with honey in them. Babies should NOT have honey before the age of 1 for the risk of infant botulism! A daycare should know this! Read this: http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_viral/botulism.html . I'm not taking a chance! The teacher seemed very inconvenieced.
UPDATE 9/10/14
Let me say in regards to the mommyknows best....I hope your child is having a wonderful experience in daycare. After watching the news about a child being left in the closet at Kindercare on Pleasant View, I SO wish I contacted the news and DHS about Sonshine! Let me clear something up. My baby was playing with a toy that had bleach in it that was in the ROOM!! NOT in the hallway! I am not lashing out. These ARE ALL actual facts!! The director wasn't there! seems a little fishy getting 3 positive reviews within 3 days all attacking my review! employees reviewing? or did the daycare ask parents to review to bring the star rating up?

Miranda P and the other two positive reviews are definitely from employees of Sonshine. I know this for a fact. Of course your child is going to have a wonderful experience when mom works at the childcare. There is favoritism here towards children who belong to the workers and to the friends of workers. If you ask too many questions about your child's day, then you are perceived as annoying and they start avoiding you. This child care facility is unsafe, unprofessional, and I am sorry that I ever sent my child here. My child has had minor injuries without notes sent home or notifications to me. My child begged me not to leave her there and I thought it was normal, but she is much happier and confident that she doesn't attend Sonshine. I, too asked about the bad reviews and at the time the director brushed it off like no big deal and acted really unprofessional about it. I wish I realized at that time that the bad feelings I felt about this place, were legit. I should have listened to my gut feeling. I will always feel guilty about sending my daughter here.

I wish I could give this center zero stars. It is such a disappointment to see how a center attached to a church could be so horrible. Every single time I went to my 10 month old's room there was a different "teacher". There was never the same person. My child was never greeted or spoken to in the mornings. Most mornings, there was never a teacher in her room when I would drop her off. I would have to find somebody. She spent most mornings in a room that is not age appropriate. When i would pick her up, she would always be in a crib but not sleeping. During "nap time" loud country music was playing on the radio while the "teachers" were doing their homework. Every day there are mats filled with toys with bleach water on them in the only hall they have. I never once saw the director. The workers are not educated in childcare or professional. Most are high school aged with no supervision. My daughter screamed every day I took her to this facility. It took me about 5 weeks to realize that this is not an acceptable childcare center. It is horrible that a church allows such a terrible atmosphere for children. Luckily we found another church facility that is an actual childcare center. It is obvious that the positive reviews are written by the immature staff members, probably the same person. I am upset that this center is even open.

what a difference

coming from a previous child care center, I toured Sonshine with all of my research done. I came across these reviews and was very nervous, but, I had a friend whose daughter attended SLC and she HIGHLY recommended it. My little girl will be 4 this month and she has come so far with the teachers in the center. I asked a lot of questions and even mentioned some of these comments and found out some of the actual facts about the reviewers. Leaving on a bad note always resorts in an lashing out of some sort, especially when it's about a mommy and her baby. As far as the bleaching of toys in the hallways, any mother knows that we cannot have bleach where children can ingest or touch; that's why they did this. The office staff has been phenomenal, including the director. She is there everyday for at least a few hours. I have never had an issue with not being able to speak with her or at least get a returned call in a timely manner. The abeka program is the learning program they use and one that I am familiar with because I am a certified SCS teacher. I would recommend this center to anyone looking for a decently priced, Christian center where your kids can grow up.

Love This Daycare

I agree with meme18:) this daycare is probably one of the best around bartlett! I toured a lot of childcare centers before this one and all of the previous ones were way more expensive and not near as nice as Sonshine I am blessed beyond words that my son attends this fabulous daycare he has been attending for about 2 and half years and recently they have gotten new office staff that are both very friendly and willing to help out in any way they can. they also have done some remodeling in the office and some of the classrooms so that was the reason for all of the toys in the hall way being cleaned. So if your going to post a negative review please be sure to include ALL of the facts! For your children's safety this daycare has a security code to get into the front doors so if you are not an employee you must be buzzed in they also have cameras in each room to assure that the teachers are doing what they are supposed to so if you are looking for a daycare please consider taking a tour of Sonshine learning center you will not regret it:)

This review is about Sonshine ...

This review is about Sonshine Learning Center. If you are planning on sending your child or children to this childcare center then please rethink and pray before you send your child to this center. Sonshine is supposed to be a christian center with christian values but this center is far from anything christian. The staff itself is underage and undereducated. There are sixteen year old teenagers working with the children and there is not a lot of teaching at this center. My child attended this center and I am so glad that my child is no longer attending. During the time that we spent at Sonshine I can say that the director was the most undereducated person to run a childcare center. Any adult that would decide to do a teacher change up ever six months is not the type of person that should run a childcare center. How can a child or children create any type of relationship when the teachers are switched from the children every six months. It seems like the teachers are not able to work with each other in this so called "Christian" setting. The director has no skill or knowledge of how a child care center should run and she relays way to much on the office staff to handle daily everything. She is supposed to be the center of how a center should be but the director is just the bottom of the pit and should never have been placed in that position. Many days my child came home dirty and looked like nobody even cared enough to make sure the children were clean. Please Please do your research and choose a center that has the best qualities because Sonshine Learning Center is not the best chose.

This establishment is not fit ...

This establishment is not fit to be classified as a daycare nor a Christian daycare. The staff is untrained in childcare and the director is completely out of touch with her staff and obviously untrained in childcare either. On several occasions my child came home with serious injuries. At only 9months old she had a huge bruise on her head and a protruding knot. Where was the staff? Many bite marks, scratches, and busted lips. I also observed on many occasions children being screamed at and put in timeout aggressively for longer than 15minutes. At that age children should not be put in timeout that long. Not a good environment for children if you love your children. We also observed 6other children pulled out of the daycare in an 8month period. That is a ot of children to leave a daycare and not because they were moving. Those parents were concerned too.
