I also signed a lifetime membership contract about 27 years ago and was paying a $5 renewal fee. I have had several surgeries in the last 8 years and have not been able to work out for some time now. Then a few years ago they raised my renewal fee to $35. I also must ad that the Raleigh spa is not very nice. It is not female friendly and the massage area smells of mildew. The music sucks in there too. No good classes either. So sad.

I attempted to commit a new rating for the Hickory Hills French Riviera Spa, but the site would not allow me to enter to do it, so I have to do it on the Poplar Ave. Spa. I have been a member of the French Riviera Spa for many years, but have recently been slammed with a new program called Facility Improvement Fees. In fact, the Spa people would not accept my annual renewal payment, if I had not included an additional $30.00 for this Facility Improvement Fee. I have contacted the Memphis Better Business Bureau and the Tennessee State Department of Commerce and Insurance and the French Riviera Spa Representatives have snubbed both agencies in their protection of this Facility Improvement fiasco. Both the BBB and the Department of Commerce and Insurance have entered this into their file of unresolved complaints. I know that price increases are necessary sometimes, but that only means an adjustment to my annual fee, with a percentage increase. It does not mean that this company can create a new program and demand that present members be a part of. Maybe new members and those members who wish to renew after being out of the program for several years, could face an additoinal fee as a requirement to join or re join, but to do this to established patrons is a travisty to those who have to go through this. I know that $30.00 will not make or brake anyone, but there is a principle here, that has been washed by the French Riviera Spa. It seems that the Spa Management feels that they can do anything to the membership and the membership should like it..not so.

The person who responded to all of my complaints, mentioned that this fee was assessed at the Memphis Health Spas and later sent an e-mail to the Tennessee State Department of Commerce and Insurance to say that the Facility Improvement Fee was needed to purchase equipment and to install new carpet at the Hickory Hills Spa and to extend the cycling room at the Cordova Spa. She said that the roof job that I heard about at the Hickory Hills Spa was not done with the Facility Improvement fee, because that was an issue that the owner of the building handled. I wonder who handles the foul odor inside of the Hickory Hills French Riviera Spa. I don't know what it will take for the Spa managment to realize that the present membership is their life line, and to miss use that Life line will mean an ever increasing loss of membership as this fledgling business has undergone, in the past couple of years.

This Business can make it better for those who have been loyal to it, by removing this mandatory fee from the annual renewals, and clean up the Hickory Hills Spa (or shut it down).
