Whipkey's is awesome. They fix everything from dents, keys, and springs. The service is fast and reliable, i've never had to wait longer than 2 days for my instrument. They also give lessons

I dislike Whipeys so much. Why do they have to run credit scores for us to rent their instruments? They also tell the scores IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. Also, they won't even display their instruments to anyone who is looking to get one. plus, the sales persons isn't really that friendly.

Wonderful Experience

I recently purchased a flute from Whipkey's and I could not have been more pleased with the service they provided. Over the course of several days Allison with patience and insight guided me through the selection process as I played the various flutes to find the right instrument for me. Each session was in fact a lesson in itself as we explored the capabilities of the instruments and made the adjustments to enhance my ablities. I now have a flute that is ideally suited to me and an instrument that will allow me to progress musically.

The negative reviews on this site need to be viewed skeptically. People have low credit scores for a reason and with the low profit margins involved the owners are forced to exert due diligence. I found the Whipkeys to be friendly, polite and very, very helpful. If you need an instrument this is the place to go.

DON'T GO THERE!!!! I agree with the guy who posted last week. I have never been treated so badly in my life. I walked in and asked a few questions. They wanted 2 credit cards. We only have one because we try not to use credit. They then ran our credit and came out to the front and in front of everyone in the lobby told everyone what my credit score was and that because it wasn't quite in the 700's (it was 687), they were unable to rent me an instrument. I had no idea that this place was like this. Obviously, I should have read reviews before I went because I now know that I am not the first, nor will I be the last to have this happen to me. I was flat out embarrassed. That is confidential information. They were not pleasant at all and treated me as if I was a criminal.

This place discriminates on all levels. I was told I needed a major credit card that would cover the expense of a Viola I wanted to rent. Next, they said they would run my credit on the spot to see if I had enough money on my major credit card. After I filled out the application and said I rented, they then came back and said I needed another credit card. They ran my credit score and denied me bc I was a few points under 700. They said you had to have a 700 in order to rent. When asked how much a Viola costs, I got no response. Totally ignored. In the meantime, a Asian man was renting a violin and had to leave with his kids to use the restroom at this time, I mentioned an ad I read that said a purchase of a Viola to own was from $149-499. A personnel in the office said I didn't want that bc it was made in China and was cheap and not real! When the Asians came back in, she told the little girl that she needed to take extra care of the used violin bc a German boy damaged it badly and said not to do what he did! Upon entering this place as a successful business person who makes a good living, I felt horrible that they didn't ask for a deposit in order to help with a child's dream to support their "credit rating" that isn't posted anywhere...it's all verbal.

Won't rent if you rent

I rent my house. I'm an executive with a multi billion dollar company, but because I rent my 4000 sq ft house, Whipkeys will not approve a credit application to rent a clarinet. I can purchase cars, but not a clarinet. Because I rent. Climb out of the dark ages and stop discriminating on completely unfounded grounds. I went elsewhere and was not given any trouble.

I'm still laughing at the first two negative reviews. Obviously someone broke an instrument and is upset that s/he is still financially obligated. I have been a customer of Whipkey's for almost 6 years. Through this time my daughters have both rented and as their skill progressed- purchased instruments. Their knowledge of the instruments, industry and the ability of the student- is surpassed by none in Atlanta. I actually joked with Mrs. Whipkey as receiving a flute from Whipkey is similar to the experience of receiving a wand from Ollivander in Harry Potter. It is a truly special moment that my daughter will never forget. To have a Master Flutist demonstrate the ability of the instrument was absolutely mesmerizing. This past weekend, I had to drop the flute off for repair work. My wife and I expected to drop it off and pick it up later next week. Mr. Whipkey fixed the flute while we waited! I dare you to find better customer service from a music store in Atlanta. I absolutely recommend Whipkey's Music for the beginner to the expert musician.

I highly recommend Whipkey's. They took time to help my son find a flute that fit him, and were extremely knowledgable about their instruments. I ended up purchasing a better product than the $$$ flute that had the yamaha name, but would not work for my son.

Whipkey's Music is an outstanding music store with a helpful, professional staff and excellent instruments. If you are beginning musician and need to find a store that will help you find a good horn to fit into your budget, Whipkey's is the place for you. They also offer high-quality professional grade horns for serious musicians.

The prices at Whipkey's are fair, and the rent to own payment plan is a great program for student musicians. Whipkey's also offer lessons for various band instruments, so whether you want regular private lessons or you just want to try one out, Whipkey's is the best place to go.

I have had a great experience renting Saxophone and taking lessons for 4 years at Whipkey's Music, so I encourage to try them out.

This is one of the best musical instrument stores I've encountered. The lovely owners, who are wonderful musicians themselves, are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and will help you find the best instrument to suit your needs and budget. If you are a serious musician, or aspire to be one, and searching for the perfect instrument, Whipkey's is the place.

They also have a music school, the Greater Atlanta Music Academy, with excellent teachers if you would like to take lessons on your wind, brass, or string instrument. Our kids take lessons there, with great results! It's also very convenient to have Dane there to tweak your instrument if something is not quite right with it at your lesson. He can fix anything!

I do not think they sell drum sets, guitars, or pianos, but they have a wide selection of just about anything else. They have a rent to own program, and very fair prices!

Definitely give them a try if you appreciate great service and fine instruments!

It was a terrible experience. I had my child (10 yr old girl) who asked me why the people were so mean to us. After viewing the other reviews I now understand that they cannot do any better. It is terrible when someone goes the extra mile to make you feel unconfortable, unwelcomed, and upset in such a short time.
