I opened an account up online. I went into the branch to open up and 2nd checking. The bank was having a giveaway that day and I like to have 2 accounts to separate spending money from bills. I had spoken previously with Anna from new accounts.

Upon arriving was not greeted by anyone. As I approached 2 women they both just stared at me. I asked for Anna. The 2 acted as if I had interrupted them.

I informed her I was just approved that morning for an account. However, given I had spoken to her previously and that I wanted to deposit money right away I'd like to open a 2nd account. I thought it was odd that she looked back at the branch manager. I personally don't see any issues with someone having more than one account.

The whole time I felt as if I was unwanted. My money was not good enough for them. After a long 10 minutes or so I was informed that she could not give me a temp atm card because I had one being sent out to me. She also informed me that my account was currently blocked pending more verification sent to them on my end. No problem I could send anything they need. She went on about how she was reading notes on my account. I found it strange that she would not tell me the notes. After all, it is MY account. During all of this the branch manager came over several times. Never once addressing me. In the end I chose to not open the account because there was no since in opening an account that I couldn't really use until I got the atm card for the other account. I figured might as well wait since I was feeling uncomfortable with person helping me. It should be noted that I had asked about a card for my husband or if he could be a user on the account. Sort of like how it is done with credit cards. I've had a credit union do this once with me and my parents. Anna seemed to not care for my question. A simple no we don't do that would have been enough.



When I got home I called Citibank. I was inform that the area that handles new accounts was closed and to call on Monday.



So today I got my pretty new atm card. I go to activate it and I'm told my account is blocked!! Yes, blocked!! To my surprise one of the notes on the account read that I asked for a 2nd card for husband. Because of this reason my account that I opened online was closed. I was shocked!! I was told I'd have to talk to the branch. I called the branch and Anna informed me that talked to the "back office" and told them I asked about a card for my husband. That I wanted 2 atm cards for 2 accounts. Keep in mind I was told by customer service that if I separated the accounts I could have two cards. However, at this point I just wanted an account for MY use. She refused to admit she closed the account.



I called customer service again. Long story short they called the branch and the branch refused to unblock the account or reopen it. I had not even deposited money yet!!



In the end I ended up on the phone with complaint department. I left out some privacy details in this review but let me just say that from the time I spoke with Anna I felt as if she had dislike for those without large amounts of money. I'm sorry if my hard earned money is not good enough for her but I have no dings on my banking history and simply wanted to switch to a more accessible bank.



I've never been treated this way. While I loved the Citibank customer service over the phone I suggest finding a different branch to do your business.
