Opened in 1966 by Lee Stark as a sister to his Ft. Collins restaurant The Charco Boiler. In 1992 the Black Steer was purchased by its current owners. Their philosophy has always been focused on tradition. A family owned and operated business that maintains its classic recipes and quality.

Would definitely reccommend this restaurant! The steak was awesome and my wife had the salmon and she really enjoyed it. Even the veggies were great!

Superb & Delicious Food!

I live in the Chicagoland area and everytime I come anywhere near CO with my business travels I make a stop at the Black Steer. The food is superb and the prices are inexpensive. I have traveled all over the country and eaten at the best this is one restaurant you dont want to miss! Staff is friendly and hospitable.

Mike

I've been to the Black Steer many times. Although the steak and hamburgers have been good, I think the salads are absolutely horrible!! It's just iceburg lettuce, and it's always been the center of the head (which I like the least). I easily make much better salads than these at home, I just prefer something at least as good if not better when I go out. The service there has been up and down. Sometimes it's good, and sometimes we wonder if there are any servers! I might go back just to give them another chance, but I won't go out of my way to go there.

Not too Good

My wife and I are new to Loveland. We went to the Black Steer because the general look of the restaurt is inviting. The moment we walked in, it was a bad experience. It smelled like smoke the whole time, the waitress ignored us the whole time (which was weird because we were the only table in the restaurnt). I ordered a steak and I got a ground pattie of cut up steak. It looked and tasted like a hamburger pattie. My wife ordered a salad and she got a bowl of iceburg lettuce. Something we could have made at home for much less. The only thing good about this restaurat was when we got to leave. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
