JEFFERSONTOWN, KY (WAVE) - A day care worker is facing charges of criminal abuse after a child said they saw their sibling pulled from a cot.

According to police, the 8-year-old reported witnessing their 5-year-old sibling forcefully grabbed by the arm, pulled from a cot and dragged across the floor before being shoved and jerked by Shacobi Kirby, 19.

The child's mother went to Jeffersontown Police. who obtained video surveillance that captured three instances of abuse.

Kirby works at the Watch Me Grow in Excellence day care in Jeffersontown.

Abuse experts said this case was an example of the process working. Kendell Nash is the Executive Director of Echo, a child abuse prevention organization. Echo has been around for 30 years.

Nash, who said one in six kids will be abused in their lifetime, explained, "The thing about child abuse is that it's not often talked about and reported and if we give kids and adults who work with kids permission to talk about it, report it, and respond to it appropriately, we are doing nothing but good for our community."

Kirby's criminal history showed she had no prior arrests. She is currently out on bond and was instructed to have no contact with the victims or the complaining witness.
